emerging from what sounds like the unknown depths of outer space, new artist icore drops a debut ep on osiris music uk lled with ve exercises in hypnotic, polyrhythmic tension. the a-sides two tracks sigil and status field feel like two parts of a whole, each establishing a minimal, kick-heavy march in 6/8 that would perfectly ll the cavernous hull of an abandoned mining vessel, lurching through empty parts of the galaxy to the sound of ominous drones and malfunctioning, high-end bleeps. the b-side is more cinematic in its scope, with opener substance from shadow summoning a distinctly b-movie vibe in its melody, before both claimed by night and axiom retreat into darker, more ambient territory, the former thick in sub- bass kicks, the latter ramping up the dread with unnerving repetition.

2017 repress due to high demand and crazy online prices!! santuri s embaire umeme ep got a worldwide premiere from gilles peterson on a never-ending quest to support and exposure far off musical cultures around the world, the next on the corner releases sees them look to uganda. teaming up with santuri (an east african electronic music innovation project) and soundthread (a creative development non-profit), they have worked alongside the mugwisa international xylophone group with modern recording techniques and further re-arrangement on two remixes. the first, by sam jones, was premiered last week by stamp the wax, and today ushers in the second by alejandro mosso. a thudding kick drum at the first beat aims this one straight towards the early evening dancefloor. working in unison with samples from the giant wooden xylophone and conversations between the musicians, serves to place the track back into its original context and is allowed to settle for a couple minutes, before what sounds like a kora or zither brings a far-eastern twist. with the slow-burning, steady elements of a balearic production and the beguiling hypnotism of steve reich s work this is a big worldwide favourite.

elizabeth merrick-jefferson is one of those artists who seem low-key. theres not a lot of information about her, if any, except for the existence of the first two records and a lone interview. one released in 2013 and the other in 2014. listening to either record tells you her music might be a lot of things, but low-key isnt one of them. powerful and colourful, direct, and with 313 references embedded in its dna, she pulls it off with style. elizabeths third record is no exception. it has found its home on our mothership label, burek. three happiness is tailor-made for the dance floor. it wont leave anyone with a pulse standing. playful synths, wonderful strings, and infectious groove make it impossible to ignore. knowledge revolution is layered and paced, painting a somewhat different picture. melancholy and a sense of mystery envelop this track, whose leitmotif vocal appears just frequently enough to provide insight into the title. the last track of this ep is fittingly titled noctilucent clouds. its a drumless track with a rhythmic main synth counterpointed by sounds which give off the impression of clouds shining through the darkness of winter nights. another amazing release from burek.

22 years ago saw the release of goldies debut album timeless which truly changed the face of drumnbass, hardcore and jungle. the seminal record featured the iconic track inner city life - the vocals for which were performed by the late diane charlemagne. in 2011, the guardian described the release of timeless as one of the -50 key events in the history of dance music-. mobo award-winning songwriter, dj, producer, visual artist and actor goldie (mbe) will release a new double album the journey man on june 16th, all written and produced by goldie. collaborators on the journey man album include vocalist and songwriter natalie duncan, terri walker, tyler lee daly, natalie williams, jose james, naomi pryor as well as goldies wife, mika wassenaar price. goldie is also one of only a handful of artists ever to co-write with david bowie on the track truth from the drumnbass pioneers second album, saturnz return released in 1998. the album also featured distinguished collaborators such as noel gallagher and krs-one. goldie will be performing an exclusive, sold-out set of shows at londons esteemed venue ronnie scotts on 24th and 25th of february, where he will be performing with the heritage ensemble along with the journey man vocalists terri walker, tyler lee daly and natalie duncan.

on thanksgiving 1989, kmart employee and audio enthusiast mark davis wandered behind the customer service desk to check out the stores sound system, which looped muzak and top 40 plus ads and announcements under the banner of kmrt, the kmart radio network. when he found last months tape hadnt been thrown out yet, he pocketed it and made a habit of doing this, collecting 56 tapes from 1989-1992. in september 2015, davis uploaded the tapes to archive.org with the humble intention of preserving them. but within a few weeks he became an internet celebrity among obscure media fans and supplemented the collection with reel-to-reel tapes from the 70s and 80s thanks to tom schwarzrock, who acquired them serendipitously along with a deck he purchased. the tapes are like a consumerist time capsule, a vaporwave trove of eerily familiar corporate ephemera extracted from its original context and purpose. similarly, attention kmart choppers is composed of pieces from this collection chopped up, resculpted, and mosaicked together by juicy the emissary, forming a new, distinctly contemporary sound while inheriting a haunting nostalgia that provokes memories burrowed deep in the subconscious

next up on aus music is the welcome return of a good friend and label regular - the ever ascendant marquis hawkes. having released 4 eps on aus thus far, he makes his return in the form of a blazing, floor-focused 2 track ep which sits neatly with previous outings on the label. the basement is burning takes its name from a near-fateful experience stemming from an electrical fire in hawkes home which culminated in him and his family being evacuated from a 5th floor balcony. having ensured the safety of his family, he made a dash across berlin to make a 10am live show, a few days later with the power back on the basement is burning was born. the title track kicks off with splashy, live drum samples that are armoured with electronic layers before a feel-good piano lick glides into the mix. bursting synths are introduced before ducking strings chords bring the track to an ecstatic conclusion. tower block boogie then tumbles short funk samples through bold drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout.

british artist gazelle twin presents her new audio visual performance show for two vocalists, kingdom come . three tracks from the av show, created in collaboration with video directors chris turner and tash tung, are now available on limited edition vinyl via the vinyl factory. artwork by jonathan barnbrook. the conceptual performance for two vocalists is staged in six chapters, incorporating electronics, film, and the brand new soundtrack from gazelle twin, created from samples and live vocal manipulation. with the piece set on treadmills against a manic, illusory landscape, kingdom come places heightening physical demands on the performers, resulting in an exhausting, otherworldly climax. taking its title from j. g ballards final novel, kingdom come will play with notions of feralness, displacement and the uncanny in the contemporary british, urban landscape. the artwork for the ep has been designed by jonathan barnbrook whom has used the track and a.v video for metro as his inspiration. jonathan recently featured in the new design museum exhibition, designs of the year , with jonathan s design for david bowie s blackstar album.
